settle into downtown art openings on friday…visit NESTING
Presented by: The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust
Wood Street Galleries
Tickets: FREE
Opening: Friday, March 5, 2010, 6-9pm
707 Penn Avenue
running until April 17, 2010
Original gouache paintings and drawings by Jennifer Howison. Jennifer’s meticulously handmade works are evocative and touch on themes of narrative and fantasy with a haunting, deliberately child-like aesthetic. Petite birds with women’s faces are trying to find their place in society. Ghosts are gathering and willingly head down a strange yet familiar path. Apparently sweet characters provoke unspoken dialog. Jennifer’s work explores the social and the anti-social aspects of human nature. She currently resides in Swissvale where she spends her time making crafts, dolls and fine art.

wow! what a snow
so by now you’ve surely heard enough about snowpocalypse 2010.
just to share a taste of it with you, i can tell you that people have ventured out and about but pgh public schools will be closed for both monday and tuesday. i have yet to leave my house by car since friday.
i have absolutely no idea why the roads are still snow covered but there is more coming this week so IMI will need to hold on and nest for a while until conditions improve.
in the meantime, i’m hoping to take this opportunity to connect with my neighbors, get out and meet store owners on our community’s main street and sit back and enjoy this “forced” opportunity to slow down. often times like these allow us to tap into greater creativity – i hope you have the chance to dig into your craft supply stash and get some new projects started to share at the next imi.
winter is also a good time to regroup and refocus – imi is working on some learning opportunities for vendors and craft lovers – let us know what you are interested in getting into by commenting here or email info@imadeitmarket.com.
diggin the snow in pa,
Carrie (imi organizer)

I Made It! Mine Vendor: Lazy Peas
My name is Lynn Patton and since I grew up in the 70’s I have always carried with me the notion of eco friendly. Like a lot of today’s crafters I love to find something discarded and remake it into something new. I started Lazypeas about 15 years ago making cards using vintage paper goods and photographs. I learned to sew at a young age so I particularly liked working with fabrics.
In the last few years I have settled into buying my fabric supplies at local thrift stores and transforming them with hand and machine stitching. I especially like felting wool sweaters, pants and skirts to make small animals, wristlets and bags. I moved to the Pittsburgh area in 2003 and fell in love with the people and the city. The energy, the blue collar common sense, and the creativeness are all here and make it a great city to be in. Besides the I Made It markets, I sell my items down at the Strip on most Saturdays at 20th and Penn and on line in my etsy store call Lazypeas.
